Brad Maunsell, Website Development

photo of Brad Let me introduce myself.

I offer many years of experience in custom software development as well as extensive knowledge and experience with business accounting and related database applications.

I have written custom business applications for managing retail fuel oil and propane dealers, accounting firm client write-up, and insurance agencies/companies.

Here is a quick overview of the work I have done:

From 2001 to 2010, I was Director of IT for a highly specialized insurance company offering errors and omissions coverage in the financial services industry.

I wrote all of the business applications for the business. The systems include policy management, underwriting, work in progress management, policy and  endorsements document management, billing, general ledger, accounts payable as well as claims processing.

Our Burlington, Vermont office moved to join the mother ship in Richmond, VA at of the end of September 2010 giving me the opportunity start on another new adventure as a consultant.

From 1999 to 2001, I was a Microsoft VBA consultant developing and supporting a wide variety Microsoft Access database applications in medical, research, government and marketing industries.

The company grew quickly from 30 consultants to 70 consultants and back down to 30 in about eighteen months when the "dot - com" collapse happened.

From 1995-2001 I was an independent software contractor. Most of my work was Microsoft Access as well as some COGNOS. Life was good but most of my work in Boston area - a three hour drive from home.

From 1988 - 1995 I was a business broker . After selling my business in 1988, I had a five year covenant not to compete and I joined the brokerage company that handled my sale of my business.

I held a Vermont real estate brokers license I sold commercial real estate and specialized in the sale of business entities. I continued with some non-competing software consulting during this period.

From 1977-1988 I was a business owner. I started in the computer systems business when I bought a small six person business and started selling Digital Equipment "mini-computers" with custom vertical market software.

I went back to school to learn assembly, visual basic, Cobol and Fortran programming languages. I taught myself DEC DIBOL by working with our systems.

That was back in the days when Microsoft was still a private company and before the IBM XT was released. The first computer I ever sold was a "mini-computer" that was the size of a refrigerator and the price was $68,000.

The early years of my new adventure gave me a tremendous opportunity to work with CPA firms when they were buying their very first computers for client-write-up. I personally worked one on one with these CPAs and  setting up hundreds of their client business accounting systems. These were very exciting times for me.

We expanded into retail fuel oil and propane dealer systems and eventually gained about 85% of this market in Vermont. We worked 24/7 during those years and had a great time growing the business. I sold my business in 1988.
